There was a buzz on Sunday at a packed Queens High School Hall as the community gathered for the annual Hong Ning Bingo Day. Even ESKOM was unable to dampen the enthusiasm of the participants with a scheduled load shed as Ivan Soloman officiated over 10 rounds of bingo to entertain and raise much needed funds for Hong Ning.

R1000 gift vouchers and other smaller prizes were given to winners of each round of bingo. While the entrance fee included one meal of choice, Winkin’s now famous beef flank and rice or vegetarian chow mein, the other food stalls did a roaring trade with many people opting to buy their takeout dinner at the event. The chow mein, spring rolls, chok (congee), hot dogs, sui kai, tea, coffee, fruit salad + custard and cakes were pretty much sold out at the end of the day.
